Personal Evolution

This is where I want to document the images that I take that I feel are a landmark for the advancement of my ability (no matter how small the detail) and contain something that is maybe new to me or something that I have applied to a reasonable standard.

Hopefully I can add Images to this page fairly regularly as I progress, unless I have hit my zenith... Fingers crossed.

(P.S, This list reads Bottom to Top, unless you want to pretend that I'm getting progressively worse...)

Kelly

Not much to brag about here, but this is mostly marking the first studio shoot I've done entirely on Ring Flash (3rd studio shoot full stop I think) and also the first time I concentrated on beauty.

Very cool lady, very cool shoot.  Quite a few firsts here, I wanted to do something more (warning, here come the douchey #flashwords) gritty, darker and black and white; so I found this location and got in contact with Bex.  I lit most of the series with a couple of cheap torches, I also spent a bit of time blamming her with my new Ring Flash...  oooohhh yeah!

Amy

Again, not a technical first, but more a sentimental first...  This is Amy, with whom I work, she has never modelled but is amazingly natural and expressive.  This was my second studio shoot but the first in which I set up and controlled the lighting from the start and for that reason I guess I'm pretty attached to it.

This was one of Caroline's first shoots and once we shed the nerves a little, one of my better attempts...  Especially in post processing.

Right, this here was my first shoot with... (dun dun derrrrrrr) My new camera!  I have now joined the <ahem>medium sized<ahem> BIG BOYS and have gotten myself a Sony A77...  Drool!  Also, this is Emily, a dancer who is very adept at facial expressions and this was my first pop at a more commercial look.

This was a couple of firsts really, although not technically...  First time in a while I've gone without off camera flash, which turns out to be my biggest bad habit... oops.  The black and white was natural light from a skylight in an old abandoned pub I know (old, abandoned and falling to pieces...  I almost fell through the ceiling!).  The shot on the right was a long exposure (3 seconds I think) and lit with a torch app on an HTC desire in the same place's toilets.

Simple really, first studio shoot and first actual attempt at glamour with all my faculties...  Shooting with a helpful studio owner and experienced model is definitely a huge part in the outcome of these shots...  but I'm still maintaining I had a little something to do with it.

This model was another professional that really made me think about what I wanted to do before we went to shoot and I felt that the results really reflected that.  I'm also quite happy with the colours and post precessing work.

 Roseanne
This represents 2 firsts, first nude shoot and first night time shoot, it wasn't intended to be after sunset but that was the way it happened

Zoe
Zoe was a leap forward for me in terms of use of lighting and just a really fun shoot.

Brook
Brook was one of those shoots that just came so easily, also playing with different lenses and DoF's, first model I'd used flash to stop out the background also.

Caity
Caity isn't a model, but she has such an amazing natural flare for expressions and attitude.  This was one of my favourite shoots up to that date (and remains so) and really represents what I thought was another jump forward.

Sophia
This shot was the shot that made me see the value in a good head shot and really sparked my interest in taking them.  Again, it was lit with off camera flash from behind and a reflector from in front.

Tara
This shot was another advancement in getting it right in camera and off camera flash, as well as Photoshop techniques.  It was also the first shot where I went out of my way to use explore strobist techniques, did I do it well?  Maybe not, was I hooked? Absolutely.

Jenny
This set was very much a progression with my understanding of Depth of Field and shooting wide open.  The shot may have a few flaws, but I still enjoy it.

Susie
Very experienced model who really helped me to up my game and showed me the the difference that experience can play in a shoot, this was also the first time I was happy with a more experimental edit (bottom).

Ingrid
First time I had applied any form of motion to a shot (the falling blossom) and another jump forward in both the use of Flash (on camera) and composition.

Leanne
This image represents the first shoot I managed to maintain fully manual settings and focusing.  Always going to be a good memory.

Louise
This one represent my first use of off camera flash, I know there are a few glaring mistakes that I should have caught, But everyone has to start somewhere (P.S, I didn't discover strobism until about 6 months after this).

These were both from my 3rd shoot, I had been asked to do some fashion images by the model so went out and brought some of those girly type magazines (a trend I still carry on, who knew they were such a useful resource?)  and this was essentially my interpretation of that whole genre.  I may not quite have nailed it, but it did spark my interest in shooting the style.

Christine
This is from the first set I ever shot when both I and the model were brand new.  I thought I should have a starting point to reference and in all honesty, I still quite like this shot.
